Blue screen on Windows 8: memory management error - what to do?
Memory management errors can occur again and again under Windows 8. Here we explain what you can do about it.
Windows 8: This is what you do with memory management errors
An error message regarding memory management indicates problems with the RAM.
- Therefore, you should first of all use an analysis tool, such as Windows' own Windows Memory Diagnostic
- After you have downloaded the program, start it and install the analysis tool on a CD.
- To do this, burn the ISO file that the tool makes available to you on a CD.
- If you now insert the CD before restarting, you can start the analysis tool instead of Windows.
- Windows Memory Diagnostic will then automatically perform the correct tests and should inform you whether and what is wrong with your RAM.
- If an error is found, you may have to replace the affected RAM latch.
- RAM bars are often located in double packs in the computer. It can be worth replacing both bars together.
Memory management error: Check system with Chkdsk
If you are convinced that the problem is not with the RAM itself, you can also check the system.
- To do this, open the command prompt. To do this, enter "CMD" in the Windows search window.
- Be sure to start the command prompt as an administrator.
- Then just enter chkdsk / f / r.
- You will probably have to restart your computer for the system check to be performed.
Next, we will explain how you can test the RAM directly in Windows 7 for similar problems.
