Cauliflower nuggets: this is how the vegetable alternative works
Cauliflower nuggets are a healthy alternative to meat products - for young and old. Even children who don't like vegetables will be pleasantly surprised by the tasty nuggets. We explain how to make them in the following article.
You need these ingredients for cauliflower nuggets
For four servings of cauliflower nuggets, you need a small cauliflower, potatoes, flour, cornflakes, breadcrumbs, an egg and salt and pepper to taste. Depending on your taste, you can also add parsley.
- First wash the cauliflower and cut it into small pieces. You should peel and wash the potatoes before preparation, and cut them into small pieces just like the cauliflower.
- Bring a sufficient amount of water to a boil in a saucepan. Put the vegetables in and let it cook for ten minutes.
- Put the vegetables in a colander and let them drain and cool well.
- For the breading, crush 100 grams of cornflakes with a potato masher or with a blender. Then add 50 grams of breadcrumbs.
- Put an egg in another plate or bowl and whisk it well with a fork.
- Put 100 grams of sifted flour in another plate.
- You can also chop a bunch of parsley into small pieces.
How to prepare the cauliflower nuggets
You can make cauliflower nuggets in different variations: Instead of the potatoes, for example, add pumpkin or broccoli. Carrots are also a good option. It is best to choose the spices according to taste: for example, in addition to pepper, you can also use chili flakes.
- Now you have to pound the vegetables with a pounder. Add about six tablespoons of sifted flour and an egg to the resulting mass. Then season the mass to your taste and add the chopped parsley.
- Make sure the dough is tough. If it is still too liquid, simply add a little more flour.
- When the dough is perfect, shape it into balls.
- Then turn the balls first in flour, then in the egg and then in the breadcrumbs. It is best to place the balls on a board sprinkled with flour.
- Finally, the balls only have to be fried in plenty of oil until golden brown.
- Of course, you can also simply prepare the nuggets in the deep fryer. It is best to follow the instructions for use of the device.
- If the nuggets are firm enough, you can also try them in the oven. To do this, preheat the oven to around 200 degrees Celsius (upper and lower heat). Bake the nuggets until they are golden in color.
