Bluray to mkv - how it works
Bluray to MKV - we show you which programs work best with a conversion.
Bluray to MKV for free with MakeMKV
MakeMKV is a clear, easy-to-use conversion program. At the push of a button, DVDs and blurays are saved as MKV on your hard drive (see picture). It is still in the development phase (beta), but is already running very stable. During the test phase you can use the software free of charge and without restrictions. In the full version, the DVD options should remain completely free, while the manufacturer would like to receive financial support for BluRay support after 30 days (price not yet known). You can download MakeMKV from our download area. In the following steps we will show you how the program works.
- After you have installed and started the program, you can directly select the DVD or BluRay drive in which you have inserted your disc. You can also open a disc or file that is already saved on your hard drive.
- MakeMKV now lists the loaded source files clearly in a kind of tree structure. It shows all the video, audio and subtitle tracks of your film. For audio and subtitles, these are both the German and foreign language tracks. Simply tick the subtitles you need. This also saves storage space!
- Then select another location and click on "Make MKV". The process begins and after a short time you have the BluRay film customized to your needs as an MKV file on your hard drive.
Convert Bluray to MKV for a fee with DVDFab
Another solution to save a BluRay as MKV is DVDFab. However, this program can do much more than that. It is an all-in-one solution for DVD and BluRay processing and the manufacturer can pay for it properly. The DVDFab BluRay Ripper (download the test version here) costs 60 euros and runs in a rough sequence similar to MakeMKV (see picture). If you want more functions, you can purchase them additionally. The manufacturer provides step-by-step instructions in German on its website.
Please note that you violate copyright law if you bypass the copy protection with the program! There is a legal back door for private copies.
