Remove blood stains - how it works
Whether from a sofa, blouse or towel - use our tips to remove blood stains even if they have already dried out. The easiest way to remove the stains is when they are still fresh.
Remove blood stains: Wash fresh stains cold
With blood stains, you shouldn't let time pass: you can usually wash out fresh blood stains without leaving any residue, but it becomes more difficult with older, dried-on stains.
- Always wash fresh blood with plenty of cold water. You should also choose a cold wash in the washing machine.
- Warm water causes the protein in the blood to clot and it is thus inextricably linked to the fibers. You should therefore avoid this.
Home remedies for blood stains - that helps
If the blood stain is older and has dried up, the stain control is a little more difficult - but not impossible. Our tricks show you how to remove even the most stubborn blood stains.
- Baking soda : Soak the garment in a bowl of cold water. Rub the blood stain with plenty of baking soda and let it soak for at least two hours.
- Aspirin : Aspirin not only helps against headaches, but also against blood stains. Dissolve one tablet in cold water and insert the textiles. Again, you should give the process about two hours.
- Salt : Salt has the same effect in cold water. However, the material can also be attacked with colored fabrics. After the pre-treatment, wash the garment normally in the washing machine, but also in the cold wash.
- Citric acid : Citric acid is one of the most versatile home remedies that can be used in various situations, including blood stains. Put a little lemon juice on the blood stain. Then the acid has to work for about half an hour. Then rinse the stain with cold water if it is gone. if this is not yet the case, repeat the treatment with lemon juice.
- Core soap : Core soap was the detergent of choice when there were no washing machines. With stubborn stains, the soap still proves itself today. After you have rinsed the blood stain with cold water, rub it in with the dampened core soap. Let the soap soak in for a quarter of an hour and then wash the garment in the washing machine.
Remove blood from upholstery and carpets
Upholstery and carpets usually do not fit in the washing machine. Again, we have tips on how to effectively remove blood stains:
- The same applies here: rub the fabric thoroughly with cold water. If there are still stains, use a carpet or upholstery cleaner .
- Potato starch has also proven itself. Stir a porridge with water and pour it onto the stain. After a longer exposure time, remove everything with plenty of clear water.
- Alternatively, you can also use gall soap and special stain removers from the trade. Here you should first check the fabric for color fastness in an inconspicuous area.
You can also remove wax stains without leaving any residue using the correct procedure. In the next practical tip, we will explain how this works best.
