Boot USB stick with multiple ISO
You can also install several ISOs on your USB stick and boot them. We show you how this works in this practical tip.
Install the first ISO on the USB stick
The easiest way to install multiple ISOs on a USB stick is with the "YUMI" tool. This partitions the USB stick, installs a boot loader and writes the ISO files to the stick:
- Download the "YUMI" tool from our download page and save the exe file at any location.
- Now insert the USB stick into your computer. Also back up all files on it. All files on the USB stick are lost during the writing process.
- Right-click on the file you just downloaded and select "Start as administrator". The program should open.
- Accept the license agreement and click on "continue".
- In "Step 1:" select your USB stick from the drop-down menu. Make sure that you select the correct USB stick. You can open an Explorer window and compare the drive letters. Also check the "Format X: Drive" box.
- Then select the first operating system you want to install. All common operating systems are mentioned here (many Linux distributions and also Windows operating systems). If your desired system is not listed, you can select "Try Unlisted ISO" from the list. But this point is rather experimental.
- In the third step you have to specify the respective ISO file. For many Linux distributions, the program can also download the corresponding ISO file for you. You must create Windows ISOs yourself or download them from the Microsoft Download Center.
- Check the settings (Is the correct USB stick selected?) And click on "Next".
- A window appears with the summary of the work steps. Read it through and click "Yes" to confirm the operation.
- When the process is complete, the first operating system has been successfully installed on the USB stick.
Install additional ISOs on the boot USB stick
After you have installed the first ISO on the USB stick, you can easily add more:
- To do this, connect the USB stick again.
- Then open the "YUMI" tool again.
- Select the correct USB stick as in the first section. Do NOT check "Format X: Drive". Otherwise, delete the operating system already installed.
- Now you can select another operating system in the drop-down menu. Also select the ISO file as usual.
- Then click "Create" and the tool installs the ISO next to the existing one on your USB stick.
Remove ISOs from the USB stick
If you only want to remove a single ISO from your USB stick and do not want to format the entire stick, this is also possible:
- To do this, simply open the "YUMI" tool again.
- Select the USB stick and check the box next to "View or Remove Installed Distros?".
- Now select the desired entry in the drop-down menu and click on "Remove". The tool then removes the respective operating system.
