Xing users in particular have probably heard of BranchOut on Facebook. But hardly anyone knows what exactly is behind the Facebook service. In short: BranchOut is an application on Facebook with which the social network not only becomes a friend but also a career network and thus rivals services such as Xing and LinkedIn.
The Xing alternative BranchOut
With BranchOut you are networked with your professional contacts and stay connected with them. This service is comparable to the Xing career network, in terms of design a mixture of Facebook and Google Plus.
BranchOut Benefits
- Registration via Facebook: BranchOut can be reached conveniently via a Facebook login. The first thing you should do is fill your BranchOut profile with information. You can indicate in your profile where you have worked up to now and reveal your qualifications (see picture). Since the service runs on Facebook, your basic information about yourself, such as your place of residence, but also information about your professional career and profile picture will be automatically taken from your Facebook profile.
- Long reach: Another advantage of Facebook integration is the worldwide spread of the social network. With over a billion Facebook users you can reach significantly more people than through comparable services. If you have professional contacts among your Facebook friends, you can simply invite them to BranchOut, no complicated registration is required.
- Job portal: If you search for companies or job profiles, the companies and the associated job offers are displayed. This is also the reason why you should fill out your profile as completely as possible. If you are looking for a new job, your profile on BranchOut not only serves for your professional contacts but also as your personal application folder with a CV.
Disadvantages of the Facebook career network
- The only disadvantage of the application is that it is currently only available in English. A translation of the page does not appear to be planned in the near future.
Nevertheless, BranchOut is in no way inferior to comparable services such as Xing and LinkedIn. The spread of BranchOut does not seem to be a problem with the Facebook login, but most of your contacts will remain loyal to the alternative Xing available in German for a long time.
