Burning sensation after bowel movements: possible causes
The most harmless cause of a burning sensation after defecation is eating spicy food.
- Hot spices irritate the extremely sensitive mucous membrane of the anus.
- Another common cause is anal eczema. Bacteria or fungi cause the eczema on this intimate skin area. Eczema also often itches. The skin can be damaged by scratching.
- Hemorrhoids are enlarged vascular cushions around the anus and another reason for a burning sensation after bowel movements.
- With hard bowel movements, there are often small bleeding anal fissures that also cause a burning sensation.
- If you suffer from intestinal fungus, in addition to pain and diarrhea, you also have an itch and a burning sensation at the exit of the colon.
You can do this for pain after bowel movements
Depending on the type of cause, there is a different type of treatment. If the burning continues for several days after defecation, you should consult a doctor.
- You can of course treat intestinal fungus with garlic or ginger. In stubborn cases, the doctor will prescribe an antibiotic.
- For harmless hemorrhoids, they use anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving ointments, creams or gels.
- In addition, it is advisable to ensure a high-fiber diet and plenty of hydration to keep the stool as soft as possible.
- Also, avoid pressing too hard, as this enlarges the vessels around your anus and hemorrhoids develop more quickly. This also applies to anal eczema.
- You can get rid of or simply prevent simple anal eczema with the right hygiene. After defecation, clean the anal area with lukewarm water and dab it dry with soft toilet paper.
- Do not use moist toilet paper, because it contains fragrances and preservatives that can attack the natural layer of skin.
- Warm hip baths with tannins such as oak bark help against the burning and itching caused by anal eczema or hemorrhoids.
