Fold the letter correctly - it's very easy
Folding a letter correctly in three-thirds so that it fits into a standard envelope can be a challenge. We show you how to do it in the following article using three simple methods.
Fold the letter correctly: the wave method
You can use a very simple and quick method without any tools. All you need is the letterhead to be folded. If you are not sure, you can also practice with a different leaf. That's how it's done:
- Curl the sheet in your hand into a wave as shown in the picture. Make sure that there are no kinks yet.
- Adjust the blade with a little tact so that three parts of approximately the same size are created.
- Place the folded wave on a smooth surface when you have placed the edges approximately on top of each other.
- Then gently smooth the edges. Make sure that the parts do not slip again.
- This method may result in a somewhat inaccurate result, but is the easiest and quickest to perform. In any case, the result should fit into a designated envelope.
Fold the letter correctly: the pattern method
The sample method, on the other hand, is somewhat more complex. Here you need another sheet of paper.
- You can use the method described above to make the sample paper. Use it to fold the paper into approximate thirds.
- Then fine-tune and continue folding the pattern paper until the thirds are exact and edge to edge.
- Then take the stationery you want to send and place half of it on the sample paper. Use a thin pencil to mark the fold edges on the stationery, left and right if necessary.
- Then fold your sample letter. You can also fold the sample letter together with the actual stationery to keep the distances exactly.
- You can use a ruler or other smooth object to smooth the edges. Always carry out the folding process on a firm surface or on a table.
- If you already have a pre-folded letter, such as the last electricity bill, you can also use this as a sample.
Fold the letter correctly: the measuring method
If you want to be exact, you won't be able to avoid the measurement method. For this you need a ruler and a thin pencil.
- A normal A4 sheet has the dimensions 21.6 x 29.7 centimeters. To find the third, 29.7 is divided by three. The individual thirds have a height of 9.9 centimeters each.
- Mark a point after 9.9 centimeters on each side of the long side of the stationery and connect the points with a thin line if necessary.
- Now fold the lower third to the first marking in the middle. Make sure that the edges on the sides close exactly.
- You can then simply fold the top third over it and use the first third as a guide. Again, make sure that the sides are clean.
