Broken Age: The best tips & tricks
Broken Age is the latest game from adventure legend Tim Schäfer. We'll show you the best tips and tricks to help you survive the puzzle adventure.
Broken Age tips and tricks
In Broken Age, you control two different protagonists: Shay, who is bored to death in a spaceship with an unknown destination, and Vella, who is supposed to be eaten by a giant monster for the benefit of her village. On the way to the happy ending, the two have to deal with numerous bizarre characters and tricky puzzles.
- Broken Age is based on classic adventures such as Monkey Island and Maniac Mansion. This means that you interact with the environment primarily through dialogues and objects. In contrast to previous games, it is impossible to die here or to block the victory permanently.
- It is best to use a mouse on the PC to play. All the necessary commands can be carried out conveniently using the two buttons. But gaming is also possible with a controller or touchscreen. You can change the control at any time in the options. You also have the option of changing the language and subtitles as required.
- You travel a lot in the story and have to visit some places several times. If you double-click a screen transition, the scene automatically jumps to the next screen. This saves you some time.
- Every time you enter a new screen, the following applies: drive the Coursor over anything that somehow looks interesting. If you can interact with anything, Shay and Vella will run over and make a helpful comment. Items that you can use later go to the inventory.
- You can either combine objects with one another or use them to influence the environment. To do this, select an item in the inventory and drag it to where it may be needed. If you have found the right combination, a short melody will be played.
- Every character you encounter is somehow important to progress. Talk to everyone, select all dialog options and remember everything that is said. When you find new items, go back and see if the characters have anything new to say.
- If you are stuck for a long time, you may have missed something on the previous screens. Sometimes you can only move on when all the items you need are in your inventory. Vella and Shay often also comment on what might help in the respective situation.
- You can switch between the two characters at any time during the game. To do this, click on the icon at the bottom left that shows the face of the other hero. Depending on your preference, you can first run through a scenario or push both in parallel. If you get stuck on one side, you can play the other for a while.
- During the second phase of the game, however, you should always switch between the two characters because you need information from one scenario for the other. For several of the puzzles, you have to rewire small auxiliary robots, the schemes for this are hidden in both scenarios.
