Brother: Printer doesn't scan - it could be because of that
You can use most printers for much more than just printing - for example, for scanning. The fact that your Brother printer is not scanning may be due to out-of-date drivers, for example. In this practical tip, we will explain what you can do if your Brother multi-function device stops scanning.
Brother printer stops scanning - so you fix the error
- Before you send the job to the printer for scanning, make sure that it is turned on properly.
- If this is the case, you can now check whether the printer is properly connected to your computer. You have two options:
- If you have connected the printer to the computer via USB, you should check the connections and make sure that they are seated correctly. In addition, the cable must not be brittle or even defective.
- Alternatively, you can also connect the printer via WLAN. To do this, however, the WLAN function must be available on your printer and activated. Make sure that it is not too far away from the PC, otherwise there may be problems in the connection.
Other solutions: Brother printers no longer scan
- In the "Control Panel" you can check under "Printer" whether the printer is connected to your PC. To do this, it must be listed here and declared as "Ready". If the printer is missing here or is marked "Offline", there is an error in the connection. This is usually the case if you do not have the correct driver installed.
- The right driver is available directly from Brother. You can also find a connection tool on the company's official website if you want to connect the printer via WiFi. Simply search for your specific Brother model on the HP website.
- However, it is often sufficient to briefly switch the printer off and then on again immediately afterwards.
