Reset Brother: Perform a toner reset - how it works
If you want to reset the toner from your Brother printer, you need a certain key combination to reset it. We'll show you exactly how to do it.
Brother printers: what is a toner reset?
- A toner reset can be helpful in several situations. In most cases, the printer simply does not recognize the toner.
- It is also common for the printer to report empty toner even though it is not empty. With a reset you can get the full capacity out of your toner.
Brother HL-3040CN: Reset the toner
Note: These instructions apply to the Brother HL-3040CN with the TN-230 toner. If you are using a different printer, read on in the next paragraph.
- Open the top cover of the printer and press the "Cancel" and "Secure" buttons at the same time.
- "K.TNR-STD" now appears on the display. You now have two options to choose from.
- Use the arrow keys to select "S" for a standard toner or "STR" for a starter toner.
- If you press the "OK" button twice in quick succession, the reset is carried out.
- Close the cover and the printer is ready for use again.
