Clean up browser shortcuts - how it works
If your browser links have been manipulated by adware, you have to clean them up manually. We'll show you how it works.
Remove browser links from adware
In most cases, adware accidentally lands on your computer and changes the start page of your browser. This change is saved in the link to the browser. The shortcuts are usually on your desktop or in the taskbar.
- Right-click the shortcut and choose Properties.
- Under the "Link" tab you will find the line "Target". The unwanted start page is saved here.
- There should be nothing behind an entry like "C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Mozilla Firefox \ firefox.exe". Remove everything behind ".exe".
- If you then close the window with the "OK" button, the link is clean again.
In the next practical tip we will tell you what a browser hijacker is that you have probably caught.
