BSI - what is it actually?
The "BSI" became known especially after a huge hacker attack was made known. But what is the BSI actually? We clarify it.
BSI: Federal Office for Information Security
- BSI stands for "Federal Office for Information Security". It is a national security authority in Germany and works specifically as an IT security service provider.
- Formally it belongs to the Federal Ministry of the Interior and was founded in 1991. It is based in Bonn with around 600 employees.
- It is divided into five departments: Department-C is responsible for cyptro collateral. Department B takes care of advice and coordination. Department K takes over the crypto technology. Department S is divided into secure electronic identities and certification and standardization. Finally, department Z is responsible for central tasks and CIO.
- The BSI publishes the "IT-Grundschutz Catalogs" based on the knowledge of the various departments. This includes not only current security standards for IT, but also personnel and organizational measures.
- The BSI is also home to the "National Cyber Defense Center", which is designed to prevent cyber attacks on Germany.
- Various security programs have also been published via the BSI. For example, the "BitBox" offers a virtual surf bypass, which makes you even more secure on the web.
We will show you in another article how you can use the BSI security test.
