If you want to germinate buckwheat at home, it simply works in your own kitchen. You can spice up your breakfast with the seedlings. Buckwheat is particularly healthy with its minerals.
How to germinate buckwheat
To germinate buckwheat, you need either a seed glass or a colander and a plate.
- The amount of buckwheat grains depends on the container in which you want them to germinate. The grains need enough space to spread when they germinate. If you use a germination glass, fill it only a third with buckwheat.
- Rinse the buckwheat grains briefly under warm water. Then fill either a drinking glass or the germinal glass with cold water and soak the grains for between 20 and 60 minutes.
- Pour the soaking water away, rinse the grains again and let them drip a little. This can be done either through the sieve cover on the seed glass or with a kitchen strainer.
- Let the grains germinate in a warm place. This should not be over the heater or in direct sunlight so that the grains do not dry out. The germination process takes between six and eight hours.
- To do this, simply leave the buckwheat grains in the sieve or seed glass and place them on a plate.
- Moisten the grains regularly. Using a germination glass, the grains should be rinsed with cold, clear water two to three times . If you use a sieve, you need to keep a close eye on the grains, since the area is larger and can dry out faster.
- If you want to slow down the germination process, put the seeds in the fridge. Here you can store the germs for three to four days.
- By the way: the slimy consistency of buckwheat is quite normal. This is reduced with every rinsing process.
How to use the buckwheat seedlings
Buckwheat protects the blood vessels with its many minerals. It prevents cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure and cancer.
- You can process the seedlings in a bread or bun dough.
- Sprinkle the germs over your muesli, yogurt or a fresh salad.
- If you want to make buckwheat last longer, use either a dehydrator or your oven. Set the latter to 50 degrees and put the seedlings in for eight to ten hours.
