Speed up buffering: how it works

Buffering video streams is not easy to accelerate unless you switch to a faster internet connection. The following tips can still help you with buffering problems, so that at least the stream runs smoothly.
Speed up buffering - but how?
Buffering means "buffering" or "buffering". This means the loading time of a video until it is played. If the loading bar just doesn't move on pages like "YouTube", try the following:
- Press pause: As soon as you play a video, pause it for a few seconds. So the video can be pre-buffered and you will not be disturbed by jerks or hangers while watching.
- Minimize video resolution: If you watch a video in HD resolution, the buffering process takes correspondingly longer. If you don't have a high-speed internet contract, you should be content with smaller resolutions. On YouTube, you can adjust the resolution using the small gear wheel at the bottom right (see screenshot).
- Clear browser cache: The browser stores previously viewed images or texts in a cache, the cache. You should therefore delete the cache of your browser at regular intervals in order to clear the cache on your hard disk. Here you will find instructions on how to clear the browser caches under Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Safari.
Possible causes of video buffering too slowly
The reasons for pre-buffering video streams too slowly can be different:
- Processor / memory overloaded: If you have opened some programs in the background or frequently choose "hibernation" instead of "shutdown" on the laptop, it can happen that the processor or the memory is overloaded. In these cases, restarting the PC can help.
- Router problem: The Internet router also works day and night. You should occasionally restart it to clear its cache. In many router settings, you can also set an automatic reboot at a specific time - ideally late at night when you can do without your internet connection.
