Create Bukkit Server - Here's how
We show you what you need for a Bukkit server and how to create it on your Windows PC so that you can use plug-ins on your server.
Minecraft: Set up Bukkit Server
In addition to the usual Vanilla server, you can access the so-called Bukkit server as the operator of a Minecraft server. In contrast to a conventional server, the Bukkit variant enables you to have significantly more plug-ins and thus a wider range of options. However, a Bukkit server requires additional files for proper use - similar to a Vanilla server.
- Instead of the official server data of the Minecraft developer Mojang, you need the file "Craftbukkit.jar", which you download from the official website of Bukkit.
- In addition, they rely on the development environment "Java Developement Kit" ("JDK" for short) to process files relevant to the Bukkit server.
Step-by-step to the Bukkit server
After you have successfully downloaded and unzipped the files, do the following to set up the server for Bukkit:
- First of all, create a directory with any name for the server on your hard drive.
- Now add the "Craftbukkit.jar" in the previously created folder. Rename the ".jar" file to "Craftbukkit.jar" if necessary, should it have a different name.
- Next, create a text file called "start.bat" and save it in the folder in which the ".jar" file is located.
- Right click on the text file and select the "Edit" option. Now enter "java -Xms1024 -Xmx1024 -jar craftbukkit.jar -o true" (without quotation marks) in the first line of the text document and save the text document again in the directory.
- With a double click on the "start.bat" file you can now access your own Bukkit server. If the text document should open again instead, you have to deactivate the "Hide extensions for known file types" under "Control Panel", "Folder option" and "Appearance and Personalization" and remove the file extension ".txt" from the text document.
Another practical tip will tell you how to let your friends join the Bukkit server using a Hamachi network.
