Bump: 3 alternative apps for data sharing
Since the discontinuation of Bump on January 31, 2014, the question has arisen about alternative apps with which you can share data with your friends. In this practical tip, we present three alternatives for Android and iOS.
Bump Alternative 1: Hoccer
The German company Hoccer offers with "Hoccer: data sharing" an app with which you can share content by gestures (throw, catch, drag). This works across platforms between Android, iOS and with your desktop PC. You do not need an account for the service and can start immediately. An internet connection is required.
- Advantages: You don't have to register. The handling is very easy.
- Disadvantages: The app needs your GPS data. This can lead to problems in buildings.
Bump alternative 2: Dropbox
You can also share your data through a cloud. The simplest solution is offered by Dropbox. You can access shared content on your Android device or iPhone. You can also use the app to automatically upload photos to the cloud. If you want to share data, you can determine who can edit or only read your data.
- Advantages: The data is securely in the cloud. If a device is lost, your data is still available. You can manage sharing settings.
- Disadvantages: You have to register. You have 2 GB of memory available in the free version.
Bump alternative 3: SHAREit
The "SHAREit" app is available in the App Store for Android as well as for iOs, Windows Phone, Windows and Mac. This means that you can not only send files to other smartphones, but also to completely different devices.
- Advantages: You don't need an internet connection to use the app.
- Disadvantages: When sending data with an iOS device, the receiver must be in the same Wi-Fi network.
