Make burger buns yourself: the 3 best ideas
A good burger only becomes the best burger with the right bun. In this article we present three recipes with which you can easily make your burger buns yourself. Have fun kneading, baking and enjoying.
Recipe 1: Make burger buns with sesame yourself
The most popular burger buns are undoubtedly the soft, juicy rolls with sesame seeds on top.
- Ingredients for eight burger buns with sesame : 3 tablespoons warm milk, 200ml warm water, 2teaspoons dry yeast or a corner of fresh yeast, 2.5 tablespoons sugar, two eggs (size M), 425g flour (type 550), 60g flour (type 405), 1.5 tsp salt, 80g soft butter and sesame
- In the first step, mix the warm water, warm milk, sugar and yeast in a bowl. Let the dough stand for about 15 minutes.
- In the meantime, break an egg.
- Then mix the flour with the salt. Add the butter and knead everything with your fingers until you get small crumbs.
- Mix the yeast mixture and the egg into the crumb mass with a wooden spoon. Knead the dough thoroughly for ten minutes. It is perfect when it shines silky.
- Now leave the dough covered in a warm place for about an hour.
- Then form eight rolls from the dough and place them on a baking sheet with baking paper. The dough pieces rest there for another hour.
- Set the oven to 200 degrees and place a bowl of water on the bottom of the oven.
- Mix the second egg with a tablespoon of water and brush the buns with it. At the end comes the sesame.
- The burger buns are baked for about 15 minutes until golden brown. Then let it cool down and then enjoy.
Recipe 2: classic hamburger buns
The classic hamburger bun is of course not missing. Here is a recipe suggestion.
- You need this for about twelve hamburger buns : 200ml warm water, 4tbsp milk, a cube of fresh yeast, 35g sugar, 8g salt, 80g soft butter, 500g flour (type 550), one egg (size M), and another egg and 2 tablespoons milk and water for the glaze
- First, put the warm water and milk in a bowl and mix it with the sugar and yeast. Knead well and let the mixture stand for five minutes.
- After the rest period add the remaining ingredients for the dough: flour, salt, an egg and the soft butter. Knead everything into a smooth dough. Then leave the dough covered in a warm place for about an hour.
- In the next step, form the burger buns from the dough. To get the perfect size for the classic burger buns (nine centimeters in diameter), use 80 to 90 grams of dough per bun. In this case, the amount of dough is enough for about eleven to twelve hamburger buns.
- Roll the dough in the palms of your hands into an even ball and then press it onto a baking sheet covered with baking paper to form a flat disc. This disc should have a diameter of eight to nine centimeters.
- Tip: If you want an all-round perfect burger bun, you can bake the buns in burger rings ten centimeters in diameter. This gives you several rolls of the same size as from the burger restaurant.
- The dough pieces have to rest for another hour. In the meantime, whisk the second egg with two tablespoons of water and two tablespoons of milk. Brush the buns with the mass. This ensures a nice shine on the rolls. Warning: egg and milk should be at room temperature. If they are too cold, the buns can collapse.
- Bake the rolls in the oven at 200 degrees (top / bottom heat) for about 15 to 20 minutes. The buns are done when the surface is golden brown. Let everything cool down on a wire rack before you load the rolls.
Recipe 3: Whole Grain Burger Buns
Whole-grain rolls are perfect for giving your burger that certain something. Or maybe you want to get a vital burger with chicken and salad. Here is our recipe suggestion.
- For six whole grain rolls you need : 100ml lukewarm water, 2tbsp milk, half a cube of fresh yeast, 1tbsp sugar, a pinch of salt, 2tbsp rapeseed oil, 175g wholemeal spelled flour, 125g wheat flour (type 550), a small egg; for spreading you need: 2 tablespoons water, 2 tablespoons milk, a small egg and grains for sprinkling such as sesame, sunflower seeds or flax seeds.
- In the first step, mix water, milk and sugar in a bowl. Then crumble the yeast in and whisk everything until the yeast has dissolved. Let the whole thing stand for five minutes.
- In the meantime, mix the types of flour with the salt. Then add the flour mixture, the rapeseed oil and a small egg to the dough and knead it all for ten minutes.
- Then leave the dough covered in the bowl to rise in a warm place for an hour.
- After the hour, knead the dough briefly on a floured surface. Shape it into an eight centimeter roll and cut it into six equal pieces.
- Use the hands to form round buns from the individual pieces of dough, which you then place on a baking sheet with baking paper.
- Cover the raw dough pieces with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise in a warm place for another hour.
- Mix the second egg with the milk and water and coat the rolls. Finally, the grains are added and the whole thing is baked in the oven at 200 degrees for ten to 15 minutes.
