Write c / o address correctly: explained using the example
You need a c / o address if the recipient of a letter or package does not have his own address. In this article, we explain what the abbreviation c / o is all about and how to use it correctly.
c / o address: What does that mean?
- The abbreviation c / o comes from the English and means "care of".
- Translated into German this means "under the care of".
- If you want to send a shipment but the recipient does not have his own address, send the shipment to the address where the person is, for example, a guest.
- Enter the person who should receive the shipment in the first address line and the person who owns the address in the second with the prefix c / o.
Examples of c / o addresses
Here are two examples for clarification:
- Jonas Schmitz lives with the Schulte family for one year. A letter to him would then be addressed to "Jonas Schmitz, c / o Fam. Schulte, Beispielstrasse 12, 53174 Bonn".
- Ms. Zimmermann works at XY GmbH. A shipment for them could be addressed with "Ms. Zimmermann, c / o XY GmbH, street, postcode town".
