Caliber: Mark books as read and unread
With Caliber you can manage your eBooks. In our practical tip, we will show you how to mark books as read and unread in order to keep your Schmöker collection tidy digitally.
Mark eBooks in Caliber as read and unread
By default, Caliber does not offer a direct function with which you can sort books by read and unread. However, you can create your own columns and create this feature yourself, even if it is a bit complicated. In our picture gallery you can see the steps as a click route.
- Start Caliber and open the settings window. Select the "Add my own columns" option in the "User interface" category.
- You will now see all the columns created in Caliber. For the read function you have to create a new column of your own. To do this, click the green plus on the right or the "Add custom column" button at the bottom of the screen.
- In the window that opens, select "Yes / No" under "Quick creation". Caliber now automatically fills the columns with some data.
- For example, enter the keyword "read" (without quotes) under Search name. Under the column heading, enter a description, such as "Read?" on. Then confirm with OK to create the column.
- Now make sure that the check mark is placed next to the "Read?" Column you just created. Do not close the window with the X, but save your changes with the green tick in the top left.
- Back in your library, right-click to select a book and then under "Edit metadata" select the option "Edit metadata individually". Under the tab "User-defined metadata" you can now easily select whether a book is read or unread.

You can now mark each of your books as read or unread in the manner described above. You can create a virtual library so that you have all unread books at a glance.
- Click "Virtual Library" to the left of the search bar, then click the "Create Virtual Library" option.
- In the opened window, enter the name "Unread" under "Name of the library". Under "Search Expression" enter "#read: no" (without quotation marks). Caliber now searches your entire library for books whose metadata you entered to indicate that you are unread.
- Repeat the same procedure for the virtual library called "Read" and the search term "#read: yes" to list all the books read.
- If you now select the "Show virtual libraries tabs" option under "Virtual library", the lists above the collection will be displayed and you can easily switch between your entire library, read and unread books.
By the way: With Caliber you can access your eBook library via WiFi.
