Caliber database damaged - what to do?
Caliber is an important tool for managing your eBooks. Here's what to do if the caliber database is damaged.
Your caliber database appears corrupted - you can do that
It is important to know that your database at Caliber is called "library". First of all: The caliber database can only be restored if you have backed it up beforehand. The error message that your caliber database is damaged usually means that another program has access to your caliber library and has crashed. How to proceed with the repair:
- Make sure that the two caliber files "metadata.db" and "metadata_db_prefs_backup.json" are not write-protected.
- First reboot your computer without starting the caliber program.
- Now check whether your books are still in the Caliber database directory: The "Caliber Library" folder should be in your user directory.
- Now make a backup copy of this folder. In the directory you should rename the file "metadata.db" to "metadata.db.old".
- Now start Caliber. The library should appear as an empty directory.
- Check that Caliber is still accessing the correct directory. To do this, you have to click a small triangle on the library icon and select the "Change library ..." option. The correct path should now appear in the next window. Otherwise you have to set it below.
- Close the window again without saving if everything is correct.
- Now click the little triangle on the library icon again. This time, however, select the menu item »Library maintenance«.
- Now go to »Restore database« and confirm this with »Ok«.
- Now the file "metadata.db" will be restored, which may take some time. After that everything should work normally again.
