Call of Duty 4: iw3mp.exe has stopped working. What to do?

Call of Duty 4: iw3mp.exe no longer works
Pick up any headphones or a headset and plug them into the microphone input on your computer. In many cases this is enough to start Call of Duty 4 without any problems. Otherwise, follow these instructions:
- Press the "Windows" and "R" keys simultaneously so that the "Execute" command opens.
- Enter the command "devmgmt.msc" here and click "OK". Then the device manager starts.
- Open the category "Audio, Video and Game Controllers" and search for your sound card (see picture).
- Right-click on it and select the "Update Driver Software" option.
- Follow the further instructions and - if available - install the new driver.
- Note: If that doesn't work either, right-click the sound card again and select the "Uninstall" option and then "Install".
