If you want to buy a used Canon EOS, you can easily read out the number of releases. In this practical tip, we will show you what you need and how it works.
Canon EOS: How to read the triggers
With a small and free tool, reading the triggers of a Canon EOS is child's play:
- Download the free tool EOS Camera Info v1.2.
- After unpacking the .zip file, connect your Canon to your computer via USB. The camera should still be switched off.
- Now switch on your Canon. Drivers may be installed. In this case, wait until the process is complete.
- In the next step, start the "EOS Camera Info" program. If you switch your Canon off again, the number of previous releases is shown next to "Shutter Count" in the program window.
Tool does not work with every model
Unfortunately, the tool does not work with these Canon models:
- Canon 300D, Canon 70D, Canon 750D, Canon 760D, Canon 5DS as well as Canon 5DS R and Canon 1D X Mark II.
- However, this does not mean that you cannot read out the triggers at all.
- An alternative to "EOS Camera Info" is the ShutterCount program, which can also read information from your camera. However, ShutterCount is only available for Mac or iOS. The tool is not free, but still affordable at a price of 4.49 euros.
- Windows users can use the free software eosmsg. Again, you have to connect the camera when it is switched off and only then switch it on.
