The Sony Alpha 6000 is one of the most popular mirrorless cameras on the market. Canon lenses can be used on the Sony using an adapter. We show how it works.
Use Sony Alpha 6000 with Canon lens
With connections for the lens - the so-called mount - each camera manufacturer cooks its own soup. That's why you can't just screw a Canon lens onto a Sony Alpha camera. You need an adapter for this.
- The so-called E-Mount is installed on the Sony Alpha 6000, which is used in most mirrorless cameras from Sony. The name NEX is also used in some cases.
- Lenses for Canon DSLRs have an EF or EF-S connection (full frame / APS-C). The standard for old Canon analog lenses is called FD.
- Depending on whether you want to use an electronic or analog lens, you need an adapter from E-Mount to EF or from E-Mount to FD.
- An important purchase criterion is whether the adapter should have an electronic transmission. You need this to adjust the aperture on a digital lens and to use the auto focus. However, the transmission is not relevant for fully manual lenses.
- There is a big difference in quality between the individual adapters, especially when it comes to the transmission of the autofocus. Expensive adapters - for example from the Metabones brand - ensure that the autofocus can also be used optimally with the Canon lens. In return, they cost a multiple of simple adapters.
