CCleaner: Recover Deleted Files - Here's How
If you accidentally removed important files with the CCleaner, you can restore the deleted files in many cases. We show you exactly how to do this.
Files deleted with the CCleaner - when is a rescue possible?
- It is entirely possible to restore the data. However, please note: The longer the data has been deleted, the less likely it will be to be successfully restored.
- This is because deleted data is overwritten by other data over time. If you have activated the "Secure Erase" option in the settings of the CCleaner, recovery is practically impossible even for professionals. The files are overwritten up to 35 times.

Conveniently, the manufacturer also offers a tool for recovering deleted data. First download the free tool Recuva. With Recuva Portable you save the subsequent installation of the software.
- Start Recuva and select the file type you are looking for. The further you narrow your search, the faster you will find it.
- In the next step you will be asked for the location of the file. Select a category or the exact file path here.
- If you activate the "Activate Depth Search" option, the process takes much longer. If you are in a hurry, you can try it first without searching for depths.
- When you start the process, Recuva starts to search. You can then select the file you are looking for from the list and restore it using the corresponding button.
