Burning a CD or DVD on Mac is easy. You don't even need additional software for this if you don't make too high demands. We'll show you how it works.
CD or DVD on Mac with on-board equipment
If you only want to burn a single file on CD or DVD, open the context menu for this file in the Finder (ctrl + click) or click on File in the menu. Then select the option "Burn [file name] to CD / DVD". However, since it rarely makes sense to burn individual files and multiple selection of scattered files is not easy, it is best to create a burn folder:
- Open the Finder, then select "File - New Burning Folder" in the menu.
- Copy everything you want to burn onto the CD or DVD into this burning folder.
- Then select the burning option for the burning folder as described above. The disk is then written to.
Burning programs for Mac or MacBook
Of course there is also software that supports you when burning. This makes it easier for you to create audio CDs or video DVDs. There is also a large selection of free programs:
- Burn is an open source solution. The software is still running even on PowerPC down to Mac OS X 10.3.9.
- Disco is no longer developed, but is still free.
- Another freeware that should meet most requirements is LiquidCD.
- The commercial alternative is "Roxio Toast". However, this program is not cheap, as the price comparison proves.
