A CD can be copied quickly and easily under Windows. In our instructions we show how you can reproduce your CD with or without additional software.
Copy CD without additional software
In Windows 10, you can copy CDs using the on-board tools available. Only the Windows Media Player is required as software:
- Start Windows Media Player: To do this, press the key combination [Win] + [R] and execute the command mplayer2 . Then insert the CD into the drive. If you do not see the contents of the CD in Windows Media Player, you must select it in the drive overview.
- Make settings: Click on Copy settings in the menu bar and select the desired options. The format and audio quality are particularly important as they affect the sound quality of the copied music.
- Copy CD to hard drive: If you have made all the settings, click on the menu item Copy CD in Windows Media Player. The CD is now copied to your hard drive; by default, the files end up in the Music directory of your user account.
- Burn music: If you want to burn the music to a new CD, first click on the Burn tab in the right pane of Windows Media Player. Then drag the files to be burned into the empty area below the CD symbol. Insert a blank disk into the drive and click Start Burn .
Copy CD with CDBurnerXP
If you would like to make a 1: 1 copy of your CD using additional software instead, the free CDBurnerXP is available :
- Start CDBurnerXP: Install the CDBurnerXP on your computer. Then run the program and insert the source CD into the CD drive of your computer.
- Prepare to copy: Click Copy or Save Media . Then, under Source, select the drive in which the CD to be copied is located. Under Destination, select a second or the same drive as above.
- Copy CD: Click the Copy medium button. If you only have one drive, the program will ask you to insert a blank in between. When the process is complete, you will receive another confirmation message.
