CD drive no longer opens - what to do?
In this practical tip we will show you what you can do if your CD drive no longer works.
CD drive does not open: You can do that
- If your CD drive no longer opens, you should look for a small hole in the immediate vicinity of the drive.
- Insert a paper clip or other small pointed object into the hole to open the CD drive manually.
- Remove the CD, if there is one in the drive, and then restart your PC.
- Try opening and closing your CD drive with another CD.
- Check in the device manager whether the drive is correctly recognized by your PC. If this is the case, the CD drive should also be displayed in Explorer.
- Also check whether there are drivers for your CD drive on the manufacturer's website.
- If the drive still does not open, it may be a defect. You should therefore contact a professional to determine exactly where the problem is and whether all connections to and from the drive are intact. If the drive is actually defective, only an exchange will help.
If the replacement is the last option, you should have it carried out by a specialist or follow the instructions. In the next practical tip, we will show you how to replace a DVD drive on your laptop.
