CDBurnerXP: Copy and create boot CD - how it works
With the free program CDBurnerXP you can create a boot CD if you have a suitable image. We'll show you how to make a copy of a boot CD.
Step 1: create an image of the boot CD
First you have to create an exact image of the desired boot CD - a so-called ISO file. If you simply copy the CD using Windows Explorer, the boot information would be lost. Therefore you need CDBurnerXP.
- Open the program and click on the entry "Copy or save medium".
- Select the inserted boot CD as the source.
- Under "Target" select "Hard disk" and define a storage location by clicking on the symbol with the three dots.
- Finally, decide on the "Copy medium" option to start the process. The tool now creates an ISO image of your CD with all data.
Step 2: Burn ISO file to CD
You can now burn the ISO file you just copied onto a CD:
- To do this, insert a blank CD and select the "Burn ISO image" option on the CDBurnerXP start page.
- Select the ISO file from your computer by clicking on "Browse".
- Then insert a blank CD or DVD and select its drive.
- Click "Burn Media" to start the process. Depending on the size of the ISO file, it may take some time to burn.
On the next page we will show you how to start Windows from a CD.
