Chrome browser error message: shockwave flash has crashed - what to do?
A particularly annoying problem plagues many Chrome users: with the message "Shockwave Flash has crashed" your Internet browser freezes and becomes extremely slow. There is a simple reason and is easy to fix. Here's how:
Why pepper salted up the surfing fun with the Chrome browser
If you have multiple Internet browsers installed on your computer, Google Chrome often encounters this error message: "Shockwave Flash has crashed". The reason for this is that Chrome has installed its own Flash version of Adobe, the "Pepper Flash "means and conflicts with the flash version installed by your operating system for all browsers. This can happen with videos, but many Internet ads also use Flash. The solution for this is to uninstall "Pepper Flash":
- To do this, first open a new tab with the entry »chrome: // plugins /« in the URL field.
- A list of all plug-ins installed in your Chrome browser appears there.
- Look for the entry for "Flash". There you will surely find the following entry: "Adobe Flash Player (2 files)". But even if only one Flash is installed there, you should continue and simply reinstall the Flash system plug-in at the end.
- Now click on "+ Details" in the top right corner. Now you will see additional information about the two different files in the flash entry.
- Deactivate the version that is installed within "Google Chrome.app/Contents/" or a similar path and has "Pepper Flash" in its name. This is the internal Chrome output. To do this, simply click on the underlined Word "uninstall".
- Only the flash version that is installed for your entire operating system must remain active.
- Now all you have to do is close Chrome and restart. On the Adobe Flash website you can test whether your system flash plug-in is still up to date and update it if necessary - done!
