Chrome: disable hardware acceleration - how it works
Hardware acceleration through the graphics card has been on board with Chrome since version 10. However, you can also deactivate this manually, for example to narrow down the cause of crashes.
Disable Chrome hardware acceleration
You can deactivate the feature in the advanced settings of the browser.
- Click on the symbol with the three horizontal bars in the upper right corner of the browser window and select "Setttings" or "Settings".
- Select "Show advanced Settings" at the bottom.
- Now scroll down to the "System" item. Here you have to remove the tick next to "Use hardware acceleration when available". Then restart Chrome.
