Chrome loads slowly - what to do?
If your Chrome browser loads websites very slowly, there can be several reasons. We'll show you how to fix it.
Slow page loading in Chrome - you can do that
Chrome has a good reputation for stability and speed. If the program runs noticeably slower, it is important to find the cause.
Google Chrome - check in incognito window
Google Chrome's incognito mode disables extensions and ignores the browser cache.
- Start an incognito window via the Chrome menu in the top right corner or the key combination [CTRL] + [Shift] + [N] and call up the website in this mode.
- If the page loads quickly as usual, the problem lies in the browser cache. Open the Chrome menu again and navigate to "Tools" -> "Clear browser data".
- Select "Total time period", check the "Browser history" and "Images and files in cache" and confirm by clicking on "Clear browser data".
Google Chrome - malware as the cause of long loading times
Check if your computer is infected with malware. This is also a common cause of a slow browser. Instructions for malware scanning can be found here.
Uninstall and reinstall Chrome
If your PC is free of malware and the browser cache could not be identified as the cause for the slow loading of websites, there is still the reinstallation of Chrome.
- First, cleanly uninstall Chrome from your system.
- Reinstall Chrome.
If websites load slowly not only in Chrome, but also in other browsers, this is either due to a problem with the website server or your internet connection. Also read what you can do if Firefox loads websites slowly.
