Chrome OS missing / damaged: reinstall operating system
Reinstalling through a recovery process will result in all of your data on the hard drive being deleted:
- Once you get a "Chrome OS is missing or corrupt" error, you'll need to restart your Chromebook. To do this, hold down the power button and switch your device on again.
- If the error message still appears, you should create a recovery medium.
- Once you have created the recovery medium, insert the USB stick or SD card into your Chromebook.
- Chrome OS will now be installed automatically. Remove the stick or SD card after installation.
- Your Chromebook will now restart and the problem is resolved.
- Tip: If you don't want to, you don't have to reinstall Chrome OS on your Chromebook. Instead, you can install the Linux operating system Ubuntu, for example.
