Google's high-speed browser Chrome can be made even faster with a few tricks. Here you will learn how to tickle the last turbo drops out of the browser.
Fast, faster, fastest: Deactivate background services
Google Chrome continuously sends data and statistics to Google in the background. Of course, this takes time and reduces your surfing speed. With a few clicks you can turn off these "brakes" and make Chrome even faster.
- First start the Google browser. Now click on the menu button with the three horizontal bars at the top right. In the next menu, select the "Settings" tab. Now a new tab should open.
- Click the "Show advanced settings ..." link at the bottom of the new tab. The menu is now expanded with new sub-items.
- In the "Data protection" tab, some braking functions can now be deactivated. To do this, remove the checkmarks from the following settings: "Fix navigation errors using a web service", "Use search queries and URLs as you type in the address bar", "Correct spelling errors using a web service" and "Automatically send usage statistics and crash reports to Google", This usually corresponds to the first, second, fifth and sixth tick (see screenshot).
- Finally, restart the browser so that the settings are also applied. Chrome should now run a lot faster.
For the brave: the graphics card as Chrome fuel
If you also want to get the last bit of power out of Google browser, you can activate the experimental graphics card support (at the time of testing). Chrome then uses the memory of your graphics card to access websites even faster.
- Start Google Chrome and open a new tab. Enter the "about: flags" command in its address bar and confirm your entry.
- You have now reached the experimental settings of the Google browser. Set the drop-down menu under "GPU compositing on all pages" to "Enabled". Caution: Only change settings in this menu if you are absolutely sure what they do!
- After changing the option mentioned, a prompt to restart the browser appears at the bottom. Follow it by clicking on the "Restart Now" button. Chrome should run faster afterwards.
If you experience problems after following these tips, you can undo the changes using the same steps. These tips refer to Google Chrome version 25.0.1364.152 on Windows 7.
