If you open a foreign language page with Google Chrome, you will be offered an option to translate. This practical tip shows you how to deactivate this feature.
Google Chrome on the PC: switch off translate page
What sounds practical at first can quickly get annoying: Google Chrome shows you a popup on all foreign-language websites that you can use to translate the homepage. If you do not want this, you can deactivate the function in the settings.
- Start Google Chrome and click on the icon with the three horizontal bars at the top right.
- Then decide on the "Settings" entry.
- In the new tab, click on "Show advanced settings" at the bottom.
- Scroll down and remove the checkmark in the "Languages" section in front of the option "Offer translation from foreign language pages".
- Tip: If you only want to translate web pages in certain languages, click on "Manage languages" and set the desired option for each language.
Chrome on Android and iOS: Disable page translator
The Chrome apps for Android and iOS also offer translation for foreign language websites. You can deactivate the function in the app settings.
- Open Google Chrome on your smartphone and tap the icon with the three dots in the top right.
- In the menu, select the "Settings" entry.
- There, in the "Advanced" section, tap the "Website Settings" option.
- Scroll down a little and select the entry "Language".
- Remove the checkmark next to "Google Translate" and then tap the back arrow at the top left.
