Chrome doesn't start - what helps?
If Google Chrome no longer starts, either the browser itself or the system has made a mistake. We'll show you how to solve the problem in just a few steps.
Google Chrome no longer starts
- Restart: If Chrome is still in the cache and has not been closed before, simply restart your computer or end the process in Task Manager.
- Anti-Virus: Your anti-virus software or an additional firewall may also block the process. Deactivate it briefly and restart Google Chrome.
- Chrome: Open the following file path in Explorer: "C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Google \ Chrome \ Application". Here you will find the "chrome.exe" file. Rename this to "chrome2.exe" and start the file. If Google Chrome opens, the file is blocked under the name "chrome.exe".
- Repair: Uninstall Google Chrome and then download the current version from the CHIP download area. Errors in the program itself should therefore disappear.
- Virus scan: If a malware blocks the start of Chrome, the free tools AdwCleaner and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware will help you.
