- Click on the Windows button (formerly "Start") and enter "regedit".
- Open the search result and, if necessary, confirm that you want to run the tool as administrator.
- In the registry editor, navigate to the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Policies \ Google \ Update \ UpdateDefault.
- Open "UpdateDefault" with a double click and change the value from 0 to 1.
- Then restart Chrome and open the "About Chrome" page with the error message so that the browser looks for a new version.
