Chrome: Save and read websites offline
Especially if you don't always have a data connection, it is useful to save websites in Chrome so that you can read them offline. We'll show you how it works.
Save websites with Chrome addon and read them offline
The most convenient way is through a free Chrome extension:
- Install the free "Pocket" app from the Chrome Web Store.
- After installation, start the app and register either via Facebook account or by email.
- A website opens automatically, on which you install "Pocket for Chrome" and confirm the dialog box that opens with "Add extension". From now on, a pocket button will appear in the browser.
- Press the pocket button. The desired website is now saved and can be tagged for better archiving.
- Then switch to the app overview in Chrome. To do this, enter the command "chrome: // apps /" in the URL bar.
- Now open "Pocket" and select the saved website in the app.
Save and read HTML file in Chrome
Alternatively, you can save the page's HTML file and then read it offline.
- To do this, open the Save dialog with the key combination [CTRL] + [S].
- Now select the storage location of the website and use the file type to determine whether only the HTML code or integrated media such as images and videos should be saved.
- You can then open the HTML file with any browser and read your articles offline.
If you don't have to save the websites offline, but only want to access them quickly, you can also save all open Chrome tabs as bookmarks.
