Both the look and the technology behind it have been revised on the Chromecast 3 version. You can find out in this article whether an upgrade is worthwhile.
Chromecast 3 - this is new
With the Chromecast 3, you can transfer content from a mobile device to the TV screen like in previous versions. The following has changed in terms of design, performance and software:
- Design : The size of the new device hardly differs from the old one. However, the Chromecast no longer comes in bright colors, but is limited to a white and a black version. The letter "G" now serves as the logo, representing "Google". The small magnet on the HDMI cable was also removed.
- Performance : Chromecast 3 has received new hardware and is now 15% faster than the old Chromecast. Now it is possible to stream videos at 60fps and full HD resolution (1080p). In the old versions, only a resolution of 720p was possible.
- Software: To set up the Chromecast 3 for the first time, you need your mobile phone and the Google Home app (iOS, Android) as usual. You can still use Chromecast to project your display onto the TV or stream apps directly.
- Price : The new Chromecast 3 costs around € 39, just like the Chromecast 2.
- Conclusion: If you decide to get a Chromecast now, then of course the new model has the edge - mainly because there is no price difference to the old version. For owners of the old Chromecast, there are hardly any reasons to upgrade to the third version, because the Chromecast 3 does not bring any real innovations.
