Chromecast: Activate and set up guest mode - Here's how
If you want to allow friends and strangers to stream to your Chromecast, you can do so easily in guest mode. This allows you to keep your WiFi password to yourself. We'll show you how to turn the mode on and use it safely.
Enable guest mode on the Chromecast
- First, open the Google Home app on your smartphone or tablet.
- Now select your Chromecast in the "Devices" category.
- Tap the Options button and select the "Guest mode" item.
- Set the guest mode here from "Off" to "On". Guest mode is now activated.
- Note: Now the device PIN is also visible. This may be needed later.
Chromecast: Set up guest mode
- The guest now simply opens any Chromecast-supported app, for example the YouTube app.
- Start a video and tap the Chromecast icon at the top. Select the "Device nearby" option.
- Chromecast and the third-party smartphone are now connecting. This happens via an inaudible audio signal. The two devices should therefore not be too far apart.
- If the connection is not established, the PIN must be entered. You can find these using the instructions above.
