You can connect your laptop to your Chromecast in just a few steps. The prerequisite for this is that your Chromecast device is already set up and your laptop and Chromecast are in the same network.
- Start Google Chrome on your laptop.
- Select the symbol with the three dots in the menu bar at the top right.
- Then select "Stream".
- A small dialog opens in which to search for available devices. If your device is found in your network, you can click on it to select it.
- You can now select which content you want to transfer under the "Sources" tab. You can choose from a tab, your entire screen or a video file that you have on your computer.
- As soon as the device and the content have been selected, the content is transferred. To stop the stream afterwards, select the "Cast" symbol again and end the transmission.
- Tip: If you use the Cast function frequently, you can right-click on the symbol to activate the "Always show symbol" option.
- YouTube: In the bottom right corner of a YouTube video you will also find the "Cast" symbol, which you can use to open the menu with one click. Then not the entire screen is transmitted, only the video.
- Netflix, Vimeo, Google Play Videos and Co also offer a stream function that only transmits the video to your TV. There is no jerking when transferring the screen, since the video from the Chromecast is transferred from the Internet independently of the laptop.
- Video stream: The Chrome extension gives you the option of transferring video files without having to start Chrome. In addition, there is an iOS and Android app with which you can control the stream from the sofa.
