CI + module or receiver - which is better?
This comparison shows you whether a CI + module is better or you should choose a receiver. So that you can get an idea of yourself, you will find the most important advantages and disadvantages in the overview.
Select receiver or CI + module?
The decision for a receiver or a CI + mainly depends on your own wishes. Therefore, you should consider these advantages and disadvantages:
- Reception: Since the CI + module can be plugged into a television and also into a receiver, the reception is equally good. Only a few breaks in contact between module and device can interrupt the television picture. Then you may have to take out the card and insert it again to be able to look further.
- Remote controls: If you choose a receiver, you will need to use a second remote control. Because the receiver cannot be used with the same remote control as the television. With a CI + module for the TV, you only have a remote control.
- Speed: In most cases, the receiver has a slightly higher speed when building the page after switching. However, this is only the case for programs that are encrypted and activated by subscription. If you only watch the freely accessible transmitters, you hardly have any speed differences.
- Swap: A big advantage of the CI + module is the possibility to swap it quickly and use it in another device. For example, you can start a movie in the living room and watch it in the bedroom. A prerequisite for this is of course an existing CI + slot in both devices. With the receiver, a change is not possible that quickly.
- Record: You cannot record HD programs with a CI + module. You then need an HD receiver that is equipped with a recording function. This is particularly useful if you also want to watch recorded films or series in HD.
Conclusion: CI + or receiver?
- In most cases, it makes more sense to choose a receiver, mainly because you can record the programs.
- The second remote control is usually not a disturbing factor, since the majority of the operation is carried out via the receiver remote control and the other is only used to switch on the TV.
- However, if you would like to use the TV in other rooms and do not want to buy any more receivers, we recommend a CI + module.
