1. Game preparation in Civilization: Beyond Earth
- Before you can start a game of Civilization: Beyond Earth, you have to make several decisions. For example, which faction you want to belong to and which bonus you prefer.
- You shouldn't choose anything too special here. Do not block some options before the start of the game. Instead, choose important values for healthy colonization. Food, health and production are important points.
- It is therefore recommended that you choose the "Franco-Iberia" as a faction, the "Artists" colonist bonus, the "Fusion Reactor" start bonus and the "Construction team" freight. So you have a slightly easier start and can take any path to victory.
2. The best tips for starting Civ: BE
- The first rounds in Civilization are always the most important. You must not lose touch with your opponents here and must expand quickly or invest in research and later build combat units.
- Immediately after the start you should explore the map with the exploration team. Look for resources and supply capsules here. These provide some important resources in the beginning. You should also keep your eyes open for archaeological sites. If you start an expedition here with the explorer, you will receive some bonuses later. Don't get too close to the unpredictable aliens with the explorer.
- Also, start exploring the technology tree as early as possible. Combat units are only important later (from the 20th to the 30th round).
- Pay attention to the health values of your colonies when starting. These should never fall into a negative state, otherwise you will no longer be able to expand. You can find out how to keep them up in the following tips.
3. Resources on the alien civilization planet
- As in all parts of Civilization, resources are important game elements in Beyond Earth. Only with these can you prepare for victory.
- As you progress through the game, you can use research to mine the various resource points of view. To see all resources on the map, click on the eye icon and select the map menu. Here you can activate the items "Resource symbols" and "Artifact symbols". So you don't lose sight of the important substances.
- The resources Schwebstein (purity), Xenomasse (Harmony) and Firaxit (supremacy) are important for the respective affinity groups. The affinities are something like the religions from Civilization V and show the attitude of a faction. Depending on which resource is predominant in your area, you should also choose your affinity. Otherwise, resource wars threaten later.
- The remaining three resources petroleum (chemistry), geothermal energy (geophysics) and titanium (engineering) are required for the construction of units and buildings.
4. How to understand the new culture system in Beyond Earth
- The cultural system has also changed in Civilization: Beyond Earth and is now called "Virtue" or "Virtues".
- Again you get so-called virtue points in the course of the game and you can invest these in the different trees. The areas of power, wealth, knowledge and industry are open to you.
- If you invest points in one of these trees, you can unlock various game elements. If you "kill" an entire tree, you will receive an additional bonus. You can also invest across the trees.
- The trees of prosperity and knowledge are important for beginners. Because there are various bonuses for health or research, for example. So you can get a free colonist or various research bonuses.
5. Technology in Civilization: Beyond Earth
- Civilization: Beyond Earth no longer has a technology tree, but a technology network. Here you start in the middle of the game.
- The lines show which other technologies you can research. But you only need to have researched the top item to do research in another area.
- The sub-items of the respective "thematic focus" are only optional. You can also research the two sub-items separately. It's best to click through this online version of the technology network to see the principle behind it - before you make any decisions in the game itself.
- In the beginning, you should research technologies with health bonuses. So you can expand more easily at the beginning of the game. For example, the items "genetics" and "gene design" are very useful.
