Civilization V: Ways to Victory
In the round strategy game "Civilization V" there are five ways to win. We will explain which ones they are and give you some additional advice.
1. Dominion: Pay attention to your capital
Getting to the "reign" in "Civilization V" is trickier than it sounds at first.
- The player who is the last to have their original capital wins the game.
- It doesn't matter who conquered most of the capitals or who is otherwise particularly powerful.
- Therefore, caution is advised here: If you blindly take all but one capital, the last player with the original capital could simply take your own capital. He would have won the game then.
2. Diplomacy: Good relationships pay off
The "diplomacy" victory is much more peaceful.
- With the technology "globalization" the miracle "United Nations" is unlocked.
- After the building of the "United Nations", an election begins.
- If you get at least half of the votes (depending on the level of difficulty), you win through "Diplomacy".
- Each nation and each city-state can cast one vote.
- It is not only your relationship with other civilizations that is crucial. The small city-states are just as important, and you should definitely free them in time.
3. Culture: The Utopia project
You can only start the Utopia project with the help of numerous cultural points.
- First, you have to fully explore five of the political trees.
- Since you need cultural points for this, you will benefit from all the wonders and other cultural buildings.
- After the fifth policy tree has been completed, you can build the "Utopia Project" - if it is done, you have won.
- Each newly built city causes higher costs for the next social policy.
- Therefore, India is particularly suitable as a civilization for cultural victory. Then benefit from a small number of cities with a high number of inhabitants thanks to happier citizens.
- If you want to achieve a cultural victory, you should only use conquered cities as puppets. This brings you satisfaction and money, but does not increase the required number of cultures.
4. Science: Send spaceship to Alpha Centauri
By flying to Alpha Centauri, you win the science victory.
- First you have to build the "Apollo program". This national miracle can be built by every nation once.
- To unlock it, research "rocket technology", a technology from the "atomic age".
- Once the Apollo program is complete, you can build spaceship parts in any city - provided you've researched the appropriate technologies (satellite technology, particle physics, and nanotechnology).
- Ultimately, you have to maneuver all the parts into the capital and assemble them into a spaceship.
- When you have finished the spaceship, it flies to Alpha Centauri and you have won the science victory.
- In order to be able to build the spaceship as quickly as possible, you should have good relationships with your neighbors: with research agreements you receive a proper science bonus.
5. Time: The player with the most points wins
If all other victory conditions have not been met, the game will end after a certain time.
- A game in "Civilization V" ends at the end of 2050.
- The player with the most points is the winner.
- The points are made up of the following criteria in descending order:
- Number of wonders built,
- Number of researched future technologies,
- Number of technologies researched,
- Size of the population,
- Number of controlled cities,
- Number of controlled fields.
- Note that you can continue playing after 2050. However, the winner is already determined. If you want to play infinitely long, you can issue the victory after time in the advanced game setup.
These instructions refer to the basic game "Civilization V", with the expansion "Brave New World" the conditions for the cultural and diplomatic victory change.
