Remove cleanserp.net - Here's how
If you have Cleanserp.net on your PC, you should remove the malware immediately. In this practical tip, we show you exactly how to proceed.
Step 1: Uninstall cleanserp.net from Control Panel
- In most cases, the adware is installed subconsciously by other software.
- First go to Control Panel> "Programs and Features" and take a close look at the list of installed programs.
- Uninstall the programs that seem strange or unknown to you and have only recently been installed. To do this, double-click on the respective name.
- Also look for an entry like "Cleanserp" or similar in the list and uninstall it as well.
- Tip: If you know when you caught the virus, you can uninstall all programs from that date to be on the safe side.
Step 2: Clean up the browser
- In most cases, this virus also infects your browser and can inadvertently install add-ons or change the search settings.
- We therefore recommend that you completely reset your browser to standard settings.
- To do this, use one of the following instructions for your browser: Reset Google Chrome, Reset Mozilla Firefox & Reset Internet Explorer
Step 3: Remove the remains of cleanserp.net
- Since the virus has stubbornly got into your system, you should also remove the remains.
- To do this, use the free AdwCleaner and carry out a complete check of the computer. Then remove all finds.
- We also recommend Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Use this to carry out a complete check of the PC.
Step 4: Check the browser link
- The adware can also adjust the links in your browser so that an unwanted start page is called up here.
- Make sure you right-click on the shortcut in the browser and select "Properties".
- In the "Link" tab, only the .exe file should be under "Target". There must be nothing behind ".exe".
- Also check your shortcuts in the taskbar.
We will explain the difference between virus and adware in the next practical tip.
