CMD: change color - how it works
If the black and white CMD console in Windows is too boring, you can change the colors of the background and font. We'll show you exactly how it works.
CMD: Change color via settings
Start the Windows command prompt (CMD) with the key combination [Windows] + [R] and the command "cmd". Then a black console window with white letters opens. You can change the dreary colors at any time using the settings:
- To do this, start the CMD console and right-click on the program's window frame. Alternatively, use the key combination [Alt] + [Space].
- In the context menu you decide on the entry "Properties".
- In the new window, switch to the "Colors" tab.
- Set the "Window background" item above and choose a desired color below. Alternatively, you can enter the RGB values of your desired color on the right side.
- Now set the point at "Window text". You can then select the desired color for your text in the console.
- Finally save your changes with "OK".
CMD: Change text color by command
As an alternative to the graphical solution using the settings, you can also change the colors of the CMD using a command:
- To do this, enter the "color / b" command in the console. You will receive a list of all colors that are possible.
- Make a note of the number or letter of your desired colors. You can then change the color of the console using the "color XY" command. The first character stands for the background, the second for the text color.
- Example: "F" stands for the color white and "C" for red. With the command "color fc" you get a red font on a white background.
