CMD error: access denied - this may be the result
If you receive the "Access denied" error with CMD, this can have several reasons. In this practical tip we will tell you what you can do about it.
Error; Access denied at CMD - what to do?
Here's what you can do to troubleshoot if you get an "Access Denied" error at the Windows command prompt:
- Make sure that you have the necessary access rights for the selected folder. For systemically relevant folders you must be logged in as an administrator.
- You should also start the command prompt as an administrator so that you have all rights. To do this, right-click on the command prompt and select "Run as administrator".
- If you still receive the error, this may be due to incorrect permissions. It can help here if you create a new administrator account via the Control Panel and carry out the second step again.
- You can try changing the folder's access rights. To do this, simply right-click on the folder and select "Properties".
- In the "Security" tab you can see the access rights by clicking on the respective user group (e.g. administrator) and adjust them individually with "Edit".
- Sometimes you can fix the error by disabling Windows User Account Control in Control Panel.
