Codes on the certificate: meaning of the abbreviations on your sick leave
Everyone knows them: sick leave. However, only a few know what the codes on the certificate mean. We have therefore created an overview of the meaning of the codes for you here.
The secret of the codes
With the help of a key, diseases can be assigned to the codes. They correspond to the international statistical classification of diseases and related health problems (IDC-10-GM), which is published by the World Health Organization (WHO). They can be found, for example, on the website of the German Institute for Medical Documentation and Information (DIMDI).
The code is intended for the health insurance company and not for the employer. It is therefore not legible on the disability certificate issued.
- There are a total of 22 chapters in which the diseases are divided into letters and numbers.
- Chapter X stands for diseases of the respiratory system, which is divided into J00 to J99.
