Install combo updates on Mac OS X - so it'll work
If there are problems with your Mac or you want to install Mac OS X cleanly, the combo update will help you. We'll show you where to find the update and how to properly install it.
Mac OS X: what is a combo update?
- The normal updates for Mac OS X are distributed through the App Store. These updates replace all system files that are affected by the update.
- The combo update is much larger and can also renew the system files that are not affected by the update. This makes sense especially if you have problems with your Mac.
- A combo update is usually between 800 and 1000 MB in size and can be started simply by double-clicking on the Mac. The update is available as a DMG file.
Mac OS X: How to install a combo update
- Open the Apple website. There you will find - if available - the latest combo update for your Mac OS X version.
- Click the "Load" button to download the update. You can then start the installation with a double click.
- Click through the introduction and accept the license. If you are asked to select the hard disk, the correct partition is usually already selected here.
- In the "Installation type" step, you can now select individual areas that the combo update should reinstall. For example, if there are problems with the mail app, it is sufficient to select this application.
- Then confirm the process to install the combo update on your Mac. Depending on the selection, this process can take a few minutes.
