Lock computer with USB stick - how it works
You want to lock your computer so that no one else can access your data. This is particularly easy with a USB stick. Find out how the trick works here.
How to lock your computer via USB stick
With a USB stick, not only can data be conveniently backed up, but even your entire computer. This works with a free tool that locks your computer as soon as the USB stick is pulled. Your PC will only work again when you plug it back into the computer.
- All you need to lock your computer with a USB stick as a "key" is the small free program "Predator".
- With "Predator" you can set up your USB stick as a "key". If it is pulled, the screen remains dark and strangers cannot use your computer.
- To do this, start "Predator" first.
- In the settings of the free program you can, among other things, determine whether autostarts from CDs should also be prevented on your computer. Various alarm options can also be set for access attempts.
- With the »Create Key« option, you simply create the security code required to reactivate your computer on your connected USB stick. In the free version of "Predator" two different USB "keys" can be set up.
- Optionally, you can also set up an additional password query.
- Finally, check the box next to "Autostart with Windows" to start the program every time you reboot your computer.
- To unlock your computer, you have 20 seconds to connect the USB stick or enter the additional password. Otherwise the computer remains locked and your previously set alarm is triggered.
